About This Spot

Stepping into La Scogliera feels like discovering a tucked-away gem along the waterfront, where the warmth of an authentic Italian kitchen meets the quiet charm of a close-knit neighborhood gathering spot. The space itself is thoughtfully intimate, with just a handful of tables that invite conversation over shared plates and thoughtfully poured drinks. Whether you find yourself at the cozy bar or nestled in the dining room, the pace here encourages slowing down — savoring not only the food but the company and the small moments in between.

Behind the scenes, the kitchen hums with genuine care, reflecting a devotion to coastal Italian flavors that feels deeply personal rather than performative. The essence of La Scogliera is captured in each bite — from the subtle heat of a Calamari Fra Diavolo to the comforting, rustic embrace of housemade pasta dishes. It’s a place where every dish seems to quietly tell a story of tradition and thoughtful reinvention, rather than rushing onto the plate for show.

The bar offers its own kind of charm, a gentle buzz where classic cocktails like a carefully stirred martini mingle effortlessly with the aromas of fresh espresso and delicate pistachio-infused desserts. It’s a balance that speaks to both regulars and newcomers, where friendliness feels authentic and service never overwhelms.

La Scogliera invites you to settle in, share laughter, and delight in the thoughtful rhythms of an Italian meal crafted with care — a space where the difference made by new hands in the kitchen and behind the scenes can be felt in the genuine smiles and the unmistakable sense of welcome.

This restaurant is under new ownership. It is even better than it was before! Our meals were exceptionally delicious. The staff is wonderful and attentive. We had a wonderful night here with our friends!

I'm just a Nashville girl, on a work trip, stumbling across this delightful AUTHENTIC Italian restaurant, humbly begging you to try the cake that is baked in house by the owner. I got the white chocolate with almond and coconut cake to go, and had to forcibly stop myself from eating it all in the hotel room all in one go. Not sweet at all, but creamy, rich and dense with toasted almond. It made this three-day work trip worth it. I also had the red snapper with mussels and clams. It was great, but sooo much food after grilled octopus, calamari, and an antipasto. Anyway. 10/10 go here.

When you want a total family experience and fresh, hot off the stove, delicious Italian meal, La Scogliera is the place to be. It has a small dining room with about 14 tables, depending on the settings. There's also a well stocked, separated bar area with seating at the counter and a few more small tables for dining. The food is simply delicious no matter what you order, either off the normal menu, or from their daily specials. They clearly state on their menu that it takes time for their foods to be prepared, so after ordering, be patient until that foods comes out to you hot and delicious. It'll be worth the wait. The wait staff is always on alert and very attentive to your needs. This tucked away restaurant on River Road in Shelton, CT has now become a favorite spot for me, even though it's two towns away from my home. I've been inviting friends to join me there for dinner and they all have the same positive opinion of this place. If you don't want to dine in, they also have take out service which is how I first ordered from this place during the pandemic. The food was still nice and hot when I got home. I highly recommend La Scogliera to anyone who's looking for a great dining experience, where they can have a quiet conversation during dinner, without the frantic hustle and bustle of a chain restaurant. Enjoy.

We've been fortunate to eat all over the world including at Michelin rated restaurants here and abroad and so we know what we're talking about when we say this place is awesome. The food is absolutely spectacular and the service was wonderful. We had a new waitstaff member and we know this because she told us and was completely honest with us about recommendations on the menu and urged us to try items that we otherwise wouldn't have. What a meal it turned out to be. The four of us all ordered different items and I tentatively ordered a steak because I've had bad luck getting steak in Connecticut lately and all I can say is this chef knows how to select meat and cook it. Absolutely delicious. The only problem is sometimes getting a reservation because it's not a huge place so it fills up. It has to be one of the true hidden gems of Connecticut.
